Harlem

First off let me say congrats to Eric M for his victory in the masters race . Well Harlem was a real hard race . The first race was the race to the start line , after they called all the pros to the line it was a mad dash to get a good possession . Mike and I were in the second row which was gold . When the gun went off I had a great start Mike not so good I saw him having trouble getting into he cleat . The first 10 laps were brutal , super fast . I held my spot in the top 30 or so which is where I wanted to stay until the last half of the race . When the race settled down it was pretty easy to move around . There were some moves coming and going . but it didn't seem like anything was going to stick . Before the race we talked about trying to be active in moves , Mike and Sal were going with what they could and I tryed a couple , but when you did you payed for it when you got absorbed . At the 50 minute mark my computer went flying off my bike in the first corner (fuck) and the next few laps i would watch it get run over when we went by . There were a few crashes during the meat of the race but they were pretty much behind . The lesion here kiddies ? Rule # 2 Stay near the front . With 20 laps to go I started to move up , I was going to try to lock in near the front and try to pick off a spot . With 15 to go I was in the top 15 and in the sweet spot I wasn't even peddling at this point as the laps ticked by I was floating in the top 5 to 10 places with 10 to go the shit hit the fan . This is when the battling started punching and leaning was hot and heavy . Radi from Rock was going ape shit , in one lap I saw him punch one guy and throw an elbow to another . I stared to second guess my willingness to mix it up . I was like chum in the water with sharks all around I took an elbow to the leg and a wheel slap in the corner , that's when I hoisted up the white flag . I do have to go to work on Monday at 5am you know . (pussy) I took my place in the top 50 now , rule #1 in bike racing if you aren't willing to throw down don't be at the front at the end . With 6 laps to go there was a crash in the 3rd corner I got caught up in , see rule # 2 . We went to the pit for the free lap and wern't allowed to jump back in I guess when they say no free lap after 5laps to go they mean 6 . Mike was the only one from the team that didn't get caught out so he was on his own . He got in the top 30 . not bad for to old guys in a young guy sport . All and all we had a pretty good day .
