Key Connecticut Law for Bikes.......

Sec. 14-286b.
Operation of bicycles; attaching to moving vehicle prohibited; carrying of passengers, packages, bundles and other articles restricted; at least one hand to be kept on handle bars. Operators of roller skates, sleds, skateboards, coasters and toy vehicles prohibited from attaching to moving vehicle. Penalty. (a) Every person operating a bicycle upon a roadway shall ride as near to the right side of the roadway as practicable, except when (1) making a left turn pursuant to subsection (b) of section 14-241, (2) overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction, (3) overtaking and passing pedestrians, parked vehicles, animals or obstructions on the right side of the highway, and (4) when the right side of the highway is closed to traffic while under construction or repair.

(b) Persons riding bicycles upon a roadway shall not ride more than two abreast except on paths or parts of roadways set aside for the exclusive use of bicycles. Persons riding two abreast, as provided in this subsection, shall not impede the normal and reasonable movement of traffic, and, on a laned roadway, shall ride within a single lane.

No problem Rondo.....

So, the Cheshire's ossifer was correct about the two-abreast law but was totally wrong about where specifically we should be riding. His ignorant (I apologize for making judging of his knowledge of law, since his job is to enforce it ????) demonstration of unsafe riding included riding in the gutter. Luckily, the law states "as practical". From my recolection, we were riding 2 abreast today when we got pulled over.....

So, what do the rest of the "shithhouse lawyers" think?

Also, another CT law states:

Sec. 14-233. Passing on right. (a) Except as provided in sections 14-233 and 14-234, (1) the driver of a vehicle overtaking another vehicle proceeding in the same direction shall pass to the left thereof at a safe distance and shall not again drive to the right side of the highway until safely clear of the overtaken vehicle; and (2) the driver of an overtaken vehicle shall give way to the right in favor of the overtaking vehicle and shall not increase the speed of his vehicle until completely passed by the overtaking vehicle. For the purposes of this subsection, "safe distance" means not less than three feet when the driver of a vehicle overtakes and passes a person riding a bicycle.

so, should we call the Cheshire Police every time we ride 2-abreast and get buzzed by cars that pass less than 3 feet away?

Signed,
Angry John

And why must the cops harass a bunch of guys (and one gal) riding their bicycles in the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle?

Ron, I'm confused, you were riding in Connecticut and you hit 24% after a few other sections that took 55 minutes or was this a dream you had? Or were in you in SC already ... that would explain things.

that cop was kind of a dickhead...

Any ideas how to deal with this kind of thing?

Other than that.... Good ride!

Tim 9:24am looks like another hard day of work for you. Yes Timmmmy there are a few such 24% climbs I know of , I never said it was the same hill did I ? I might have strung 2 climbs into 1. With that over sized brain I thought you might have come to that conclusion .

We will miss ron next week

Cop was wrong about the single file crap, but otherwise, there's something to be said about common sense. Don't make it hard for cars to pass...if we are taking up the whole lane but are going speed limit (often the case on first half of ride), well there ain't nothing we are doing that's wrong. However, making it a bitch for cars to pass on Rt 10...not cool. Love the ride, but hate the stupid.

A-train

A-Train...way to stay with the group when others were getting dropped

I've done that loop in SC. Back in the day...stayed at Occonee state park...that climb to Highlands is sweet. We also did an epic 110 miles up to the Blue Ridge, crazy downhills.

Very cool place to train. We usually stay at Table Rock park 20 miles east. They were sold out , so its Devil's fork this year .

Isn't that where Deliverance was filmed? Suuuuuuuuuuu weeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

So you made up the two climbs and the 24%. Makes sense, with a sustainable power output of less than 325 watts you wouldn't make it up such a steep long climb. By the way I was sick today. Even riders with sustainable power outputs much much much much much much much much much much greater than 325 watts get sick dude. Hell my very very very very easy warm up on the gym bike is around 300 watts.

Wait your climbing to Highlands? I've stayed there before for training. (I must admit I didn't look at your map).

For some reason, we keep getting pulled over by the same Ossifer, Ossifer Patterson. It's either this guy is on a power-trip OR he's responding to calls from town residents and motorists.

From my perspective, if we challenge him, then it's possible that he'll keep pulling over the group, and end up ruining the ride every week. Worse than that, he may attempt to fine us.

Either way, we should try and ride 2-abreast (if possible) and not inhibit cars from passing. (ie...the law)

Its a small town and the coppers have little to do .

Angry Ron and Iron Mike in the same small town at the same time?
