What the fuck??

Hi I was just at a Krauser's food mart. I saw a disturbing thing while standing in line. I was third in line the people being waited on had 4 sandwiches 2 bags of chips, 2 energy drinks and two Hostess apple pies. Totaling $33.75 all bought with a WIC card. The person in front of me bought 5 sandwiches totaling $22 also with a WIC card. I don't know how the system works so I asked the teller if it was legal for them to buy food like this with the card. He informed me that it was. This blew my mind with the money that they both spent they could have and should have bought enough deli meat and bread to last 1 week not 1 day. As a hard working taxpayer of this state for many years I see this as a slap in the face. Mind you both customers were dressed in expensive clothes from head to toe and also had expensive jewelry on. To top off my angry customer #1 left in a BMW the other in a new SUV. I will tell you this I am not going to be one of these people to just look down and ignore this activity any more. With the state in financial difficulties I think that such wasteful practice's should be put in check. Lets here you bleeding hearts talk your way out of this shit. Don't cry when your taxes go up either.

Unfortunately, I will not spend my time on things I can't control.
If I had my way, there should be an electronic way to limit the specific items that may be purchased by the WIC card. I agree that someone should not be able to buy 20 lbs of potato chips for their family, or 2 lbs of cavier.
Like I said, can't worry about things outside my control, if I did, then taxpayers will then need to pay for my upcoming heart attack.

Are you also aware that with EBT cards one can purchase ciggarettes. This is true and very correct information that had me disgusted to the point that I wrote many letters the state, news stations and even sent one to our ciggarette smoking President. The only response I received was from the state defending the practice by telling me that even poor people have the right to smoke and it's keeps them happy. Really? I shit you not. That is exactly what I was told. I think you need to start a revolution!! I will march with you.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps the Gov't has figured that financially allowing Poor people to die earlier from smoke related illnesses is less costlier to the taxpayer than restricting purchases on these cards.

Unfortunately, if the government stops feeding people, the hungry will come to take your food or cigarettes. So get your bunker ready and make sure you and your family are well armed to defend what you have.

And checking what people buy just adds to the size of government by adding more people to enforcement.

Solve the problems of poverty and you solve the problems of crime, drug abuse and welfare.

Or let them eat cake and and head for your cave.

Hi there,

Thanks for sharing the link - but unfortunately it seems to be down? Does anybody here at rondosrage.blogspot.com have a mirror or another source?

Ron, you can't restrict freedom to purchase. That's just the golden rule, not of democracy but of capitalism. And like it or not, we live far more under a capitalist system then a democratic one. If not, then we'd see the rich getting taxed far more than %15 along with financial transactions taxes and so on as popular sentiment demands. Instead those poor people that you decree are the only ones that will actually have a tax hike when this bill goes through. And the dems suddenly finding a backbone is in part political grandstanding but also because all of the right-leaning democrats ONLY!! were thrown out off office. So of course, since they realize more then ever that their jobs depend on the impossible task of solving this declining empires woes they will lean more left than ever. But I digress. I’ll go head-to-head with you. If someone buying a bag of chips with the paltry sums paid out in our pathetic social safety net disgusts you –which without the ruling class understands there would be revolts similar to those taking place in Europe under the current austerity measures, like the ones the US has slowly faced over the last 30 years, being implemented – then what about a Goldman Sachs executive spending his lavish tax-payer subsidized bonus on $3,000 a day to gas his yacht or a $1,500 lobster dinner. I mean there is a spectrum here that you fail to see. Where have all the problems from this country come? The banks; the wars; the outsourcing of jobs and the tax breaks for the rich. The poor are just an affect of such policies. And if you don’t like it, get used to it because it’s only gonna get worse. Go ahead, say what you want about me. I don’t care. Silence in the face of erroneous logic and false pride are far worse than knee-jerk pop-shots. With much love and respect read Cippo and get angry at something that makes sense.

"Ron, you can't restrict freedom to purchase." Bull Shit, people are restricted from purchasing many things.

"tax-payer subsidized bonus" you must be referring to the fact that these companies received "loans" which are being paid back with interest.

"poor people that you decree are the only ones that will actually have a tax hike when this bill goes through." You must be smoking something that is restricted because 40% of people DO NOT PAY ANY FEDERAL INCOME TAX.

Anonymous said...

Ben,
WTF are you talking about restrict the freedom to purchase? I think what Ron is talking about is people abusing the system that really don't need these cards but somehow get them and use them for pleasure items. The real poor people are not buying sandwiches, soda and chip with their cards, they are buying enough food to last the week. They are not driving SUV's and BMW's, they don't have their nails done and hair done.

1) So when was the last time you were rewarded for causing millions of people to lose their homes and virtually have the world banking system, still far from safe, practically collapse? You’d be fired, arrested and made to pay restitution, not appointed to the Fed or given massive bonuses. Nor would you be “bailed out” or “given a loan” if you went bankrupt . . . Oh, that’s right, there’s a law against bankruptcy today . . . But that only applies to the poor and what’s left of the middle-class.

2) Let’s operate under conventional notions: The rich pay all of the taxes. Okay, so where do their taxes go? They go back to them in the form of corporate subsidies or even foreign aid. For instance, most of US corporate agribusiness profits come from the fact that it is given huge handouts. Corn alone gets about $2 billion per year. This is why Mexico is a practically a failed state: they can’t compete. The same can be said for oil and other fossil industries, IT, pharmaceuticals, military contractors and practically anything else. In some cases foreign aid is used to build infrastructure that will serve US multinational companies so that they can import/export raw materials and products that is of little benefit to the recipient nation. In other cases, the recipient nation buys US made weaponry, as the Saudis just did to the tune of $60 billion – or what the US arms industry had in surplus.

There is a fundamental misunderstanding of how society operates in this country. Read books and turn off fox news. Otherwise you could learn more with Vaseline and a warm, moist towel. There is well-deserved anger out there but it is so misguided. Mandarins . . . You know, the picture of that Depression Era picture of the breadline that Ron used is real. And the conditions that created those breadlines mirror those of today. Yet then people organized and fought back earning MANY of the benefits of this “free society” that we enjoy today but are quickly losing. The difference is that people were more informed. Instead of Glenn Beck try Glenn Greenwald.

Robyn,

I think that a lot of poor people are brought up on junk-food because it was once very cheap. When I worked in Social Services we could almost never get our clients to eat vegetables. Its because most produce is either expensive or unavailable in poorer areas as we've seen with the closing of the New haven Shaws. And everyone in this country has flashy consumer merchandise thrown in their face on TV and else where. Since the fault lines of class, closely linked with race, have historically been composed of disenfranchised outsiders one might stupidly believe that a BMW with rims helps them fit in. BMW = Status. Look at me, I stupidly went without lots of things so that I could have wheels and frames, not to fit in but out of obsession. The point being, even if you're poor where there is a will there is a way. Lastly, its nearly impossible to falsely get WIC cards or food stamps. You need to be $200 below the poverty line which is $20,000 for a family of four.

Bengay
You think that your smart but I smell copy and paste all over you. I bet if I put your first sentence in google I would come up with the author of your verbal diarrhea. The point you miss is I was standing in line covered in overspray buying a bottle of water. Just after working 10 hours and seeing my pay stub with all the taxes taken out of it. Mind you I don't mind paying them. I just don't like handing it over to people that have no respect for money, that they don't deserve and didn't earn. If you had a job and truly new what it takes to manage a house, car payments, college tuition's and such I think that you would have a differing opinion on the mater. What if all the true Americans that go to work everyday and dont look for the government to solve there woes just stopped? Would all the society suckers such as your self, give us the true Americans a break? Would you and the section 8 and well-fare patients step up and take the "good jobs"? I think not bengay! I think not! The day that the true Americans wake up is fast approaching. When they do bengay all the bottom feeders such as your self will have no choice but to shit or get off the pot. So there you have it I dare you to google this. There wont be any plagiarism from me bengay. I have a mind of my own and I don't need Glen Beck to tell me how I should think. Unlike you and your ilk who need the liberals to give you your marching papers.

P.S. I do have my guns and ammo ready. I live by two flags first the Stars and Stripes but all so the one that says Don't Tread On Me.

Ron,

I don't plagiarize, google away. And I got you're point. But you didn't get mine. That the wealthy spend their money foolishly, too and pay little taxes compared to what they make. And Ron, I have student loans that are HUGE!! and a car payment, too. So fuck you! And I'm not happy about this bill. It will add to the already huge deficit and create zero jobs!! You think its easy living on what I get??? Fuck you!!

And as far as your petty arms and true Americana crap, google the word "cache" asshole!!

bengay I got your point. The problem is you don't get it. You my boy don't have a job! You think that you pay taxes but you don't.
Q; Did you earn that money?
A; No it was given to you by the state.
Now you will write that you payed into the system and deserve the money. I agree with that . You deserve every penny that you put in but not a penny more. So what you are saying then is that you have payed in at least 2 years worth of lets say $300 a week. Do you really think that you have put that much into just unemployment benefit's? I think not. If you have then you should get it but lets face facts. You would have had to work about 30+years without getting layed off to have put in that much. Where do you as a person draw the line and say enough is enough and go get a job? Even if its at Starbucks. They have health insurance and 401k you know. Then you would be a burden on society anymore. Its time to dust your self off and put on your bigboy pampers and get back in the game. Don't be a stat, be a man. I know you can do it. A smart guy like you, maybe cleaning a few portolets or serving a coffee or two might just wake your ass up.

I thought Bengay said that he was independently wealthy? What happened to that money? Was it redistributed? Bengay, when are you going to start living in the real world????

You two dumb fucks! You think I want a handout and not a job? But fuck if any place is hiring. You just don't get it. The economy is practically collapsing. Unemployment insurance, extended as it is, serves two purposes: One it keeps the economy from completely folding because people like me buy things and pay bills, thus paying taxes, too. The second is social control. If there weren't unemployment benefits there would be riots.

Ben,

Come on with all the bullshit about there being no jobs. If you wanted one, you would have one. Just admit that you want to ride your bike and live off of other people. If they are willing, then what the heck..live it up.

Rondo said...

No bengay you just don't want to work. UPS, FEDEX, Best Buy are all hiring. You just think your better that everyone else. Get a job any job. You are at the point of no return. If you looked at someones resume and they hadn't worked in two years.(yours) Then looked at someone else and they kept in the work force doing what ever they could to stay off unemployment and be productive who would you hire? Yup you can say it don't be shy. That's right not you!!!

Can't we all just get along and ride bikes and spit on each other? My eyes hurt from reading Bengay's longwinded hypocrisy. Im riding on sunday with an EBT card in the spokes of my carbon tubulars.

Ben,

Anyone who can afford to drive a BMW or SUV does not need assistance from the state. You are really missing the point that Rondo was trying to make, while trying to defend the exact people Rondo is talking about.

BTW - Hope you are having a nice time. Post some photos!!

Ron,

Can't argue with you on you're last point. For me it's school or nada. The point of no return was crossed long ago. That's why I can't find a job now. I've applied at all of the aforementioned places at one point or another. So I don't think I'm better than anyone else, never have. And thanks, Robyn.

Btw, I think I'm quitting cycling.

I worked as a nutritionist and director for WIC for many years and the store should not be selling folks these foods. WIC provides vouchers for specific foods that are listed on them (i.e., milk, eggs, peanut butter, juice, and beans). Infants are allowed formula if mom is not breastfeeding but that is also on the voucher.

That store is in violation and you can report them to the State WIC Program. Occasionally WIC will have undercover folks audit stores but it is way too costly and too many stores to audit.

WIC is a good program that has helped many people with nutrition education and healthy foods when they need it. The nutrition education is provided by a qualified Dietitian and precedes the client getting vouchers.

You should report that store if it bothers you. Sadly, this stuff happens too much.

Here's the number: (860) 509-8084

Here's some info on the program if anyone is in need or knows someone who might be.

BTW, about the BMW thing.

the point is not about helping the needy, it's about exposing the scam. Many people use these programs for peronal greed.Go to any section 8 housing area in mid winter and watch the residents walking around the apt in shorts because heat is at 80 degrees.Go to any live there by choice ghetto and see the welfare cards being swapped for money by scamming store owners. There are countless people abusing the Husky program. The big problem is being selfish and lack of personal responsibilty and common sense.Tough to give people the benifit of doubt, when they can't provide for themselves but still insist on reproducing.

As was mentioned earlier, trying to control things beyond your control is a waste of energy and will most likely make one a very bitter and negative person. Life is too short to focus on such things. There will always be abuse and/or misuse in any "system".

Unfortunately, procreation is a powerful force.
