1/24/11

After a few calls with McG, Robyn and I decided we would give it a go for the Sunday worlds. We were expecting the worst with the temp so I broke out my winter shoes. When we left it wasn't that bad. I didn't say anything so as not to jinks us. When we got to the cafe' CXChris was the only one there. We spotted E 5 minutes, and then rolled out without him. I would later find out he was riding his trainer in the sauna where he lives to assure he will be ready for the balmy temps in fla. We meet Guido at Eastrock and that's when we came to the conclusion that the temp wasn't that bad. At the park, the S&S crowd was light, all in all I think that there was about 15 people there. When the pack hit rt10 the wind was whipping and it wasn't pleasant. I was about to start a day of pain. The cleat on my right shoe was too far forward and it was like I was pedaling with my toes. If any have experienced that you will know that your thigh will pump up. I thought here we go it seems every time I go on a training trip I get injured just before I leave. My hamstring is still not good and I could feel it tweaking with every stroke. I just layed low for the hole ride. As far as I could tell Guido and McG were the main protagonists of the day. There were moments where a nice pace line formed. The wind was pretty bad so I think a few guys did a little to much and blew them selves up (CXC). With the wind at our backs the ride picked up speed. I cant say that anyone was really sprinting for glory. I think we just wanted this ride to be over. You guys can bicker on who did what on the ride in the comments. The best part of the ride for me was when Robyn and I pulled into Cafe' Romeo and took that first sip of coffee. OK so go fuck yourselves, I'm Fla bound, have fun in the snow, we will be riding in short sleeves.

Well, you wonder why I always dress in black,
Why you never see bright colors on my back,
And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone.
Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on.

I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down,
Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town,
I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime,
But is there because he's a victim of the times.

I wear the black for those who never read,
Or listened to the words that Jesus said,
About the road to happiness through love and charity,
Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me.

Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose,
In our streak of lightnin' cars and fancy clothes,
But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back,
Up front there ought 'a be a Man In Black.

I wear it for the sick and lonely old,
For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold,
I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have been,
Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.

And, I wear it for the thousands who have died,
Believen' that the Lord was on their side,
I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died,
Believen' that we all were on their side.

Well, there's things that never will be right I know,
And things need changin' everywhere you go,
But 'til we start to make a move to make a few things right,
You'll never see me wear a suit of white.

Ah, I'd love to wear a rainbow every day,
And tell the world that everything's OK,
But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back,
'Till things are brighter, I'm the Man In Black.

'Twas a blustery day, and spirits were high from not having to ride indoors...the perfect recipe for riding oneself off the back. Perhaps if I had some cool goggles I may have been able to see that coming.

Great ride regardless. Props to Guido and Jacinto for the company riding back into town.

Ron, Robin, E - have a successful trip!
