The course was flat with only one real corner but with a long headwind section and the laps were almost 2miles. OK lets start with Robyn. She did the woman's race and came in 6th. They did the roll around at 15mph and then sprint thing, so she did the 45+ race right after. She held her own and finished mid pack. Props to her!! Next up was the 35+ race it was 45min + 2 laps. E and I discussed what we should do and came up with E trying to get in an early break if not it would be all him in the sprint. I would look for action in the middle of the race then look to lead the race out for him. E was all over the front during the first 3 laps but nothing stuck. I made a few attempts but it was way to windy. When a move got to the headwind nobody wanted to work. It was your typical attack then rest counter attack 35+ race. With 2 laps to go E was on my wheel and we were siting about 6th in line. I kept him there until there was about 1 mile to go. Then I went to the front and drove it as hard as I could. When i hit the finishing straight I was cooked. I pulled off, E went for it and got 9th. These guys have been racing for a few weeks already so I think that's pretty good. After all the digs we made our legs were still pretty fresh. We hooked up with Robyn and super soigne Brittney and grabbed a sandwich. Then we got right back on the bikes because we had the 1/2 race in a couple of hours. Just enough time to get some stiff legs. We rolled around for a hour and a half and jumped in the big boy race. There were a few pro and some big strong FLA crit riders. The 35+ race was pretty easy as far as crits go but the feature would be the exact opposite. We tried to stay at the front in the beging just to get the legs going again. E was in the mix right from the get go he made a couple of great digs but once again nothing was getting away. It wasn't for the same reason as the masters race though. This was a fucking barn burnner. It was a constant 30mph head wind our tail wind we were full gas. Moves would come and go all day, E went off the front with 6 laps to go.
Everyone was in a panic the pace went to PLAD. I was near the front and the shit hit the fan. The move was made, all the teams were represented. I was on the last train across It was a grouop of 11. A guy from the Kenda pro team was in the move and he was keeping it real hard. We had a good gap with 4 laps to go but it wasnt a slam dunk though. Then some guy from a local team(?) took a fuckin pull at 37+mph for about 3/4 of a mile. I was in my 11 and my legs were quivering. I looked down and my heart was in th 190's. This was the 3rd or 4th time I was out powered today and I must say it stung. We were gone now I just had to stick it. With two laps to go I got stuck with a long pull into the wind. When I got to the back of the group the guy in front of me let a gap open. I was spent! I got fuckin droped they group was inching away. I buried my self and got back on. I took a few deep breaths and got ready for the finish. I started down the finishing straight and the legs wernt to bad. I was in like 5th or 6th with 200 meters to go but thas when the legs went to jelly. It was like fliping a switch I will say this I was the only one in the move that had raced already. Now there were 11 in the move they paid 8 take a guess what place I came in? Yup you got it 9th! All in all we all had a good day considering that there is 4 feet of snow on the ground and the training has not been optimal. Tomorrow we have a 56 mile road race, hopefuly the legs will recover enough to pull somthing off.
