2/27/11-1

It was a perfect day out there so all you guys that decide to stay in to bad for you. You can say that its better off to be safe. I know guys that go out west to avoid the conditions but lets face It if your going to crash your going to crash NO? On to the ride! I met the new haven crew at the Cafe' and we ventured off into the wet wilderness. CXC was there with his 25c pave' tires and proclaimed that they were the safe tires for the wet/slushy conditions. I told him that they were going to be toboggan's but what do I know. When we got to the park the turn out was grim. There was the Swiss family Bethel, Foley and Hippie Chris. The S&S boys pulled up with the same turnout. Most noteably missing was Crowell. As we rolled out Jancinto and Guido showed. Whewwww now we got a ride. MTB man set the early pace, someone has to do the light work. When we hit the back roads they were in great shape. At the second stop sign MTB man yelled all clear and I guess in the woods that means car. E had to make a quick line adjustment and CXC and his Flexible Flyer tires hit the ground. A few guys kept going with the rest of the group soft pedaling. He was a little disheveled and E and I waited while he dusted himself off. When we got going the whole New Haven crew waited for him and we paced him back to the group. When we got up there Crowell was in the field. We got rolling and by the chicane the ride was moving at a good clip. The wind was in our face so anything that tryed to go clear was doomed to come back at this early stage of the ride. The ride started to unfold at the ski slope Guido put in a good pull so did E and I. That got the guys rolling. I put in a long hard pull on the false flat by the shooting range. Crowell and someone else I cant remember who rotated through and I pushed the pace for a little while longer. McG, Hunter, Guido,Jancinto and a few others took up the pace for a bit. We were know approaching the turnaround, that's when Hunter put in a dig. Guido was on the front with E and me on his wheel. It was clear that Hunter was going nowhere so we let him cook for a little bit. He was back in the fold! As we hit the steep part of the climb before the corner Hunter went again. That's when I took over for Guido. We were setting up E for the sprint so I went hard till the turn then I kept upping the pace all the way to the last pitch before the sprint. McG took off and E went off him and EASILY won the prize. A group of 6 pulled away,I was pretty gassed and had to dig deep to stay with them over the top. The group came back at the light at Lowes but it was a little smaller. The ride was tempo for a while and nothing really happened until we got on to rt10. Hunters boy form Mass went off the front. It was a long way to the S&S sprint so nobody was to intent on chasing just yet. By the prison Crowell went off in pursuit. There was still a long way to go and we did alot for the last sprint so McG and I let Guido start to real them in we were on Crowell and about 50 meters off the other guy when the light turned RED for everyone but the two MASSHOLES blew the light. We had a nice rhythm going and the light fucked it all up. I had to set off after them and leave Mcg and E in a bad spot. McG had to go from to far out and Hunter got E's wheel. Oh well you cant win them all. Note Hunter turned off right after that. We had to recover for a bit to get ready fore the finale. We let Guido and Crowell push the pace for a bit but as we came close to the finial KM MCG took hiss pull then I went to the front for a long tug. Hippie Chris came off my wheel and E was on him. E finished off the everyone that was left. Well that's it for the SPG ride for 2010/2011. Lets see who got the training right and who got it wrong. PLAINVLLE - BETHEL NEXT WEEK.

Amazing that we made it through another winter with no major casualties. Excellent job this year with the Rage.

Many thanks to the New Haven Crew for the massive support today. The tyres were in fact 27s, and yes, Ron, they were the wrong choice. Good times!

it was a fun winter of sunday rides but I am wishing for an early spring and drinking beers in the S&S parking lot as the sun goes down after a hard Tuesday ride. See you guys at Bethel & Plainville. I wish everyone a happy & safe race season.

Just for shits and giggles what big race is there in July? I know some of you guys think when you see the tour you think your there but as far as I know, all the good races are in the spring.

What big races are there in July ?
I have to say that this sentece says it all....
Fitchburg a 4dy stage race, Tour de Quebec another stage race, Tour of the hilltowns 97 mile with 9,500 ft of elevation, The New England crit championship race. Thats ten races, if you won one of those that would make your entire season...The s.g.r. is just a social ride, there are fucking street lights in the middle of the ride for christ's sake. Its so sad that its funny to read this blog, I feel like I should be thanking you guys every week for your effort :-)

Anon has a point.
Ron, sorry to dissapoint by turning off before the dumb sit-sprint. If you ask the other fast guys, I don't think they were holding anything in the tank as we hit StopnShop.
Maybe when the time changes, a few of you guys will be willing to roll the dice a little more.
And give Crowell some credit for once.

You're hooked anon.

When you and I enter the same races I will be forcing you to burn your matches and the fun part is you will not even know its happening. You can thank your own mouth for the fucking you will receive. LOL. Now you have something to chat about :-)

I believe Rondo did provide a compliment to Crowell this week when he wrote:
"...When we got up there Crowell was in the field. We got rolling and by the chicane the ride was moving at a good clip..."
.
Makes one think that Crowell was a key contributor to the pace at that point.
