3/25/11

Well I'm back in the hospital again just where I wanted to be! Since I last posted thing have moved fast and changed a lot. After Guido looked over my MRI he passed it off to one of his co-workers with a little more background than him. I guess hes not the smartest guy in the world. They got me in with a specialist at Yale and he gave Robyn and I a totally different opinion. He basically told me to go back to my life. If I can walk around the block then do so. That kinda thing but not over do obviously. We talked it over and decided that we were going with this guy. I did not relish the thought of laying in bed for three weeks. What it comes down to is, if it happens again it doesn't matter whether I'm in bed or not. I had to go on Thursday for one more test a CT scan with die. Then they could really tell me what as up. I did some running around in the morning and was fine. Then I went home and was chilling on the couch with the dogs. Then I started to get dizzy and my hand was a little numb. I didn't want to wait for a meat wagon so I got in the car and drove to Yale. Its like 2 miles from my house. When I got there, they have valet parking at the ER so I through the guy my keys and told him I was having a Stroke. When I got in the er I started to lose my speech again. They had me on a stretcher and were rolling me into the back and just like that it was over. I looked at the doctor and said that's it its over and they did all the poking and shit just to make sure. Then I got my 5th CT scan in less than a week then I was put in ICU. Fuck me this shit sucks. Now I get IV'S right were the old ones were that felt special. Then a shit load of blood was taken and I g ot another CT scan I swear I will be glowing by the time this is over. Then at 12:30 am I went for another MRI. No sleep for Rondo yet again. I got back to my room at 1:30 and was woken up 3 to get 3cc of heparin in the stomach let me tell you the shit fucking burns. At 6 they drew more blood so by this time I'm shot. I had a consult with 8 white coats at 9 Now the room was spinning. Then at 11 they told me I was having an angiogram at 1:30. Never a dull fucking moment a YNH for me. Robyn came at noon and she can a test to this one the nurse took 8 vials of blood. She said that she never took that many at once before. This angiogram thing is a wire that they stick in you groin and push up into your brain via the femoral artery. Then they inject die to get a good image of the obstruction in my brain. The image showed that there was a 50% blockage in the M1 artery. Guido will no doubt correct me on all the thinks I get wrong here. They whacked me up with some goods meds and they didn't really kick in until I got back to the room. This was the first time I got some sleep in days. I am going to post this and finish on Saturday because I'm pretty shot right now. I know about the spelling errorsNick I have IV's on my hands.

Recently, I had a peach-sized cyst removed from my groin. (Ask Dr. McG about the subsequent surgery performed on my saddle) Needless to say, I'm quite a "pussy" since I experienced a vasovagal response prior to surgery. (Sorry to the Readership if the use of the word "pussy" offends you. Remember, you're on Rondo's blog)
You're alot tougher than me, but will never be tougher than the Bionic man, Peter Johnson.
As with Pete, we all know you'll completely recover from these current medical issues.

Glad you got a second opinion Rondo. I'll bet you never got this much attention in your life. Enjoy the "spotlight" while you can. Before you know it, you'll be back with us schmucks.

Yep, Rondo, I know what you're going through and it's definitely a bitch. Not the best place to get any sleep, that's for sure. Being pricked and prodded endlessly makes you feel like a human punching bag. As Hunter mentioned, hang in there. As Big John mentioned, I had to go through some heavy stuff at YNH ... and got through it fine. I don't want to get sappy on The Rage (that's definitely not cool here!), but I really appreciated the in-person support and visits to the hospital in '08 and at my home from several of the SG peleton. I think that - and, of course, Robyn's support - is even more of a help to you than you realize right now. Definitely sucks that you have to go through this though. More than a few of us have been hit with some serious health challenges and came back to cycle like maniacs.

Ditto to all of the above Ron, I don't think you'll be hanging the bike up any time soon.
