11/28/11

What a weekend, the weather was awesome on Saturday. Robyn and I went to Washington to do hills. With the promise of more great weather we left at 8am to meet the S&S boys. We hooked up with E on the way (no Jelle hes sick). The fog was so thick in the Havens that you couldn't see 5ft in front of you. We were soaked but the temp was in the 40's so we were good. This trio of would be weekend warriors would get there first test of mental will power. We dropped down into Hamden and the fog was gone but the temp dropped 10 degrees. Robyn and E were first to plant the seed of frozen bits. I have found that once you say it out load that it only gets worse. We pressed on and got to S&S. once there and standing still my hands went numb. McG gave me a dry pair of gloves but the damage was done. I was shivering on the bike path on the way to the Giant. It was warmer there but still not what it was when we left the hood. The ride started out slow and I nestled between Koski and Big Johnny to stay warm. Krusty the Crowell started to ride hard (Shocking). On the back roads the pace was steady and got fast as we approached the light at rt68. It settled in and was steady until the ski slopes. The pace was high as we hit the false flat then I hit a hole and my day

went to shit. My handlebars fell off I thought I broke my fork. I road no hands while holding my handlebars and veered to the opposite side of the road for fear of taking down the field. Someone tryed to help me but I TOLD him to get away from me. I brought the bike to a slow stop. Upon checking my bike out 3 of the 4 bolt that hold the handlebars on snapped. Mike and the boys stopped but there was nothing they could do. FBI Greg who lives down the road came and got me with his car. He brought me back to S&S, I grabbed McGs keys and cranked the heat. When the boys got back Mcg said he had people at his house so I grabbed two of the bolts from his stem and set off on my way. The ride home with fully stiff legs was pleasant to say the least. I'm sure you guys can fill in the blanks missing from the ride.

On route 10, 3 guys got away:
1.) A younger gut who has trouble playing with others in a break
2.) A 54 year old guy
3.) A guy with a pacemaker

No Clowns or Zanes guys made the break.

Ron, keep er bike parts to yourself. I was hit in the back with somehting on the false flat. I can presume it was a stem bolt head from your bike. Glad you made it out of that ok.

Chris C rode hard as well.

I'm racing for a couple more weeks so I will see you guys in February. Glad I made it would for a few sunday mornings with you.

Who wants to join Cheshire Cycle for 2012?
