Great words from a Great Man!!!
Wow! Who would have thought, you and I think alike politically. I am very scared at the direction this country is going. We need to send a message this November and vot out these ass-holes. It has never been so important!
This one is a little different...... Two Different Versions.... > .............. Two Different Morals
OLD VERSION
The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away..
Come winter, the ant is warm and well fed.
The grasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.
MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!
MODERN VERSION
The ant works hard in the withering heat and the rain all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.
Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while he is cold and starving.
CBS, NBC , PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.
America is stunned by the sharp contrast.
How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?
Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper and everybody cries when they sing, 'It's Not Easy Being Green...'
ACORN stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house where the news stations film the group singing, "We shall overcome." Then Rev. Jeremiah Wright has the group kneel down to pray to God for the grasshopper's sake.
President Obama condemns the ant and blames President Bush, President Reagan, Christopher Columbus, and the Pope for the grasshopper's plight.
Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share..
Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity & Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer.
The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the Government Green Czar and given to the grasshopper.
The story ends as we see the grasshopper and his free-loading friends finishing up the last bits of the ant's food while the government house he is in, which, as you recall, just happens to be the ant's old house, crumbles around them because the grasshopper doesn't maintain it.
The ant has disappeared in the snow, never to be seen again.
The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident, and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the ramshackle, once prosperous and once peaceful, neighborhood.
The entire Nation collapses bringing the rest of the free world with it.
MORAL OF THE STORY: Be careful how you vote in 2010.
So what you're saying is that we should simply let the ants stamp on the grasshoppers and get rid of those "free loaders" once and for all. I'm all the free market but within limits. Just look at where we are with high healthcare costs, poverty, etc.
Your's, or whom ever you got that from, is a simplistic answer to a complex problem. I think we can all agree to that at least. I think we can all agree that something should be done and thank the current administration for having the balls to try.
In view of the fact that private organisation of production is a function of national concern, the organiser of the enterprise is responsible to the State for the direction given to production. State intervention in economic production arises only when private initiative is lacking or insufficient, or when the political interests of the State are involved. This intervention may take the form of control, assistance or direct management. Doctrine of Fascism, 1935.[114]
"I think we can all agree that something should be done and thank the current administration for having the balls to try."
Try what? Putting my kids, into a debt so large they will never be able to it off? Government is not the answer. It is the problem. This administration is full of the most arrogant, pompous crooks that I have been witness too.
No I think they are saying that the grasshopper should learn to fend for him self because the ants will wake up one day and say enough is enough. That's the day we take ARE country back!!!!!! This country was built on hard work. Not government intervention.
I got a C- in political science in school, but think that our political system was built with many checks and balances preventing things from getting too far out of whack. Ultimately, I think, it's all about compromises. There is no one right approach to the complex problems that we're facing. Fundamentally, I believe that the free market will eventually solve most problems but sometimes it needs a kick in the butt.
Wow. Regan, like most politicians, spoke out of both sides of his mouth. While demonizing government he greatly expanded it and promulgated laws that severely restricted the populous while diminishing laws that oversaw corporate governance. This was the beginning of the neoliberal movement that has brought us so many unmanageable issues. Government has very specific functions that always worries the wealthy: It can restrict corporate power and is accountable to people but only when they hold put pressure on it. Stop watching fox and read!
As the father of the GOP said out of one side of his mouth: “I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the sake of my country . . . Corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.” -Abraham Lincoln, November 21, 1864.
This is or problem. Not big government per se, but government that is in bed with corporations; not immigrants or minorities, they bear the brunt of economic hardships. Reagan and Obama are one in the same. A close examination of policies will show a clear lineage. One begets the other.
The more you watch TV the less you will ever know. Regan smashed PATCO and began liberalising the banks; built up the military to an outrageous size by running up massive deficits and started the outsourcing of American jobs.
Crowell, SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!!! You are the epitome of a Reganite, loud mouth, unlimited energy to debate, and no knowledge whatsoever. Sounds kinda like Ron!!!

I bet the grass hopper doesn't even speak English!

Exactly
we need more movies like the human centipede. Wikapedia it

That was a racist statement Crowell You have hurt many grasshoppers feelings and I think you should pay them reparations.
"As government expands, liberty contracts" Ronald Reagan

Reagan was senile when this speech was made.
Quit drinking the tea, Ron.

Enough politics. I want to get back to making fun of Rondo's spelling.
Looks like another rainout for the TWC. This weather SUCKS!

What is wrong with you?
Wow, whomever said that quoted my favorite republican and spoke the truth about the dangers of corporations and government sharing power.
The founding Fathers knew well enough to separate church and state but could not have anticipated the corrupting alignment of business and government.
We need to ban lobbyists, implement campaign spending limits and stop drinking tea.

I'm going to stop reading this blog if we don't stop talking politics. Good points by all.
Can we now get back to making fun of Rondo????
Chris C.
Crowell,
SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!!! You are the epitome of a Reganite, loud mouth, unlimited energy to debate, and no knowledge whatsoever. Sounds kinda like Ron!!!
Annon,
Whats up with all the anger? That's typical from someone from the left. You guys are always so angree.
Chris C.
The Anon quoting Lincoln was not the same as the anon attacking Chris, btw.
But as Ron will tell you "angree" is spelled: angry . . . As in Angry Ron.
See. I have been reading this blog so long that I have started spelling like Ron. Why do I have this sudden urge to shave my head and grow a goatee?
Chris C.
