2/13/12 supplemental

When we got going again the dude the was up the road was safely tucked into the 1/2 field never to be seen again. Florida has 3 big teams and you live and die by that they decide what goes up the road and what comes back. Its a shitty way of racing but when in Rome. The race picked up and a group of ten had pulled its self clear which I was in the only problem was that we caught the 1/2 pack. There was the Kenda guy a group of 15 at 1 minute then the pack at like 3 minutes they were on there last lap so the official would not let us by but they wernt racing anymore. This allowed the pack to come back to us just as we were hitting the longest of the climbs. I told the guys I was with we should just ride through the caravan. I got mixed reactions, so I just rode through and they all followed. The they neutralized the 1/2's and are break was done. The official told us the one guy from our race was 2:30 up the road . We were now one the last lap so we wernt going to see him, we were racing for 2nd. The last lap was pretty fast they were trying to whittle down the pack fill. The last time up the long climb I was pushing the pace and when we got to the bottom of the decent there were 10 of us or so. The head wind was killer though and nobody wanted to work and the field came back. I was going to wait until the last little hill 1k from the finish to make my move. There was a guy that was hammering up all the climbs and I marked him as the person to follow so I was all over him when we approached the climb. He attacked just as everyone knew he would. A Zmotion guy was on him and I was on the Zmotion we got a good gap but when we got over the rise the headwind smacked us in the face. I was waiting for the Zmo guy to make his surge and go over the top of him but he waited to long and I saw guys coming on my left. They had a head of steam and my legs were to stuffed to get on the train. I should have not waited for the Zmo guy but them is the breaks. I was pretty bummed 70 miles in the 30mph wind and I got nothing but hey there is always the crit on Sunday right. Note Rich Foley and his wife Roz are down here to Rich got 4th in the 50+ race. Robyn was also in the 50+ race and finished in the field.

Sunday the crit
This is an awesome course there is 200 meters of brick road a small rise and 6 corners in under a mile a perfect breakaway course. It was cold about 37- 40 with a strong headwind on the start finish straight. The race was an hour and 5 minutes +5 laps. I was not going to get caught out so I stayed on the front at the beginning. I was in every move for the first 25 minutes and I shit you not the one move I didn't go with was the one that stuck. Besides me there was 2 other guys that wernt on one of the 3 Fla teams so I got fucked again. I waited to see if one of the 2 other guys was going to try to pull the move back and they didn't seem to care. That's when I said fuck it and attacked the break had 30 seconds on me and I had a Florida velo guy on my wheel. He helped a little but not much. I had the break at 15 seconds and was closing but the pack came back and a few guys attacked. I was gassed took a breather for a lap and had to chase the second group down now. I got on them but the break was back to 30seconds i knew that my day was over so I went into make the pack suffer mode. I pulled for 7 laps straight just to get a workout in. As we hit the bell lap a few guys attacked I jumped on but didn't have anything left to sprint. I will say this I got some good hard miles in the wind this weekend.
